Ma Nolan’s Cannes

This project – the third Ma Nolans on the Cote D’Azur – entailed the conversion of a modern bank to that of a Ma Nolans Pub within a tight fourteen week time frame end to end. The attractive location lies at the corner of Rue Bivouac Napoleon and Rue Buttura, overlooking the red carpet of the Palais de Festival. The challenge of the design was how the Ma Nolans style and vibe would translate over two floors – enticing customers upstairs but allowing it to be closed off for private functions. Given the location and weather, there is a very strong emphasis on connecting the interior and exterior of the bar; done with large concertina style windows bringing the outdoors in and giving customers inside a better view of the Palais. The classic Ma Nolan’s style, developed for the Irish pubs in Nice Old Townand Nice Port, was adapted to give a chunkier, more robust appearance. The tin ceiling tiles; wall and ceiling lights were custom-made to enhance this. Artwork was carefully sourced and commissioned for its Irish connection and compatibility with the look and style of the bar. The overall appearance is clean lined, masculine and polished.
