Ma Nolan’s Vieux Nice

This project entailed the redesign of the original Pub for Thady Nolan in the heart of the Old Town of Nice, which we originally designed in 2005. The Ma Nolan concept is a reinvention of the ubiquitous Irish pub and is a design that appeals to all nationalities, not just Irish.

The building was completely gutted and soundproofed. The refurbishment included a redesign of the basement to improve the sanitary accommodation and a very essential overhall of plumbing and wiring so that the pub operates with the most up-to-date regulations and technology.

The style of pub was retained – traditional authentic Irish joinery and furniture but a pared back simplicity and no bric-a-brac or sawdust floors in sight. Instead of snugs and confined spaces the design is open-plan and symmetrical hence suiting the warm climate of the South of France.

We used contemporary black & white photography of ancient Irish heritage sites – a modern impression of an inherently Irish creation: as is Ma Nolans.
