The Rose Hotel Bar
We were commissioned to design the bar, furniture, ceilings and lighting of Dotts Bar of The Rose Hotel. The bar, which shall be used for all events associated with the annual Rose of Tralee Festival, was also to be suitable for drinking, dining and large parties. The brief was to create an impressive, upscale bar which would incorporate a whiskey bar, cocktail bar and a coffee area.
Working with some of the story behind the hotel, we started with the concept of trellis archways with rose appliques creating the idea of ‘tumbling’ roses. Nestled between them is the whiskey bar, illuminated like a glass cabinet, and back lined with luxurious wall coverings suggestive of a leather lined jewellery case or cigar box. Antiqued mirrors create intriguing reflection, particularly at the cocktail bar which stimulates interaction and social behaviour. The rich mahogany bar counter is bordered with a leather armrest, creating an immediate tactile impression of comfort and luxury. Lighting is a very important aspect in the overall design, as important in the concealed LEDs which hilight and lowlight; but also in the art-deco inspired fittings. The furniture was designed with a clear brief to create an ultra-comfortable yet practical design in luxury materials.
